OASIS Fine Arts Gallery Wins Forbes Center Award

OASIS has won a prestigious award in recognition of lifetime achievement in the arts. This is an annual one, awarded by the Forbes Center, JMU College of Visual and Performing Arts and Arts Council of the Valley. It is bestowed on a recipient who has made sustained contributions to arts excellence in the Shenandoah Valley.

The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of July

The Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of July, is exhibiting the works of SVAC member artists, in an exhibition judged by Jim Sconyers, Jr., Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Art History, Mary Baldwin College. Artists selected by Sconyers for recognition are: Sue Rosen, Best in Show, Jane Tressel, second place, William Reed, third place and six additional artists received honorable mention awards. The art center is proud that it is a community based organization that showcases and supports its talented members with this annual exhibition. The collection of artwork will feature the artists’ major works in a variety of media. Please include a visit to the art center in your summer schedule.

United States CongressThe Augusta County Library system is hosting a summer reading program for children ages birth to 18 now through July 31. The program includes prizes for hours read and a series of weekly programs with the theme Paws to Read. The program’s mascot is Rocket, the dog featured in the award winning and bestselling children’s books by Tad Hills.

Fall Films, Art, Performance and more in Downtown Harrisonburg

What’s going on over the next few days /weeks in downtown?
      Court Square Theater will play an important role in your holiday experiences… Harrisonburg’s International Festival is coming up and the first Sunday Soup of the season will be held at Court Square Theater this month.
      Participants will be creating “mini-parks” or terrariums at Art in the Park and Artery, a local live painting troupe, will help us create a collaborative painting based on environmental themes.
      Looking forward to October’s First Fridays Downtown, the entries from the Parklet Project will take over downtown on the evening of October 4 from 5-8pm.
