Blue Ribbon for Fine Earth

A Harrisonburg business was selected as Blue Ribbon Winner by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce March 1. The awards program is sponsored by Sam’s Club and honors companies that demonstrate excellent business practices in several areas, including strategy, employee development, community involvement and customer service. Sam’s Club is a Diamond Sponsor of the Small Business Summit scheduled in May 21 to 23 in Washington, D.C., where the Blue Ribbon winners will be honored.

The Blue Ribbon Winner in Harrisonburg is Fine Earth, offering design and installation services in residential and commercial landscaping and hardscaping.

This company is among 75 Blue Ribbon winners nationwide. The competition was open to businesses with fewer than 250 employees and gross revenues of less than $20 million in 2009 and 2010, and each business had to complete a comprehensive application in order to be considered. Seven semi-finalists will be chosen from the Blue Ribbon Winners, and one of those seven will be named winner of the Dream Big Small Business of the Year at the Small Business Summit in May, receiving a $10,000 cash prize from the U.S. Chamber.

Rosalind Brewer, president and CEO of Sam’s Club said

Small businesses are often described as the pulse or backbone of our country, and we admire the drive and initiative that it takes for their owners to be successful … Fifty years ago, Walmart Stores, Inc. was founded as a small business, facing many of the same challenges and opportunities then that these businesses face today. We join them in celebrating this honor and the spirit of entrepreneurship that makes these businesses successful.

Each Blue Ribbon Winner will receive a complimentary registration to the Small Business Summit, courtesy of Sam’s Club. In addition, the winner will receive a discounted registration for any additional registrants affiliated with the company; recognition at the Dream Big Blue Ribbon Awards breakfast and luncheon, a certificate and a web sticker to display on the company website.
