Ring in the New Year in downtown Harrisonburg
Harrisonburg’s favorite community New Year’s celebration, First Night, is back with a full line-up of entertainment and festivities in downtown Harrisonburg on New Year’s Eve from 6:00 pm to midnight. First Night is held in more than 100 cities across the United States and is focused around celebrating community and the arts. With children’s and teen’s activities, music performances, a grand finale fireworks show over Court Square, and much more, there’s sure to be something for everyone to celebrate. The evening will begin with opening ceremonies on Court Square at 6:00 pm. A variety of music and theater performances will follow throughout the night at venues around downtown Harrisonburg.
Among the many musical acts are Abbey Road, Kat and the Travelers, Nothin Fancy, and Jessica Crawford. Rock dance bands Brigades, Finding Fera, and Help Wanted will provide concerts especially for teens. Theater group Ted and Company will provide comedic, inspirational performances, and No Strings Attached will challenge and delight audiences with their improvisational comedic sketches.
The Explore More Discovery Museum will stay open until 9:00 pm to offer children and families a number of exciting activities throughout the evening. And to cap it all off, there will be a grand finale fireworks show over Court Square.
Admission to all First Night venues, performances, and activities requires the purchase of a First Night button. Presale buttons are $6.00 each and buttons at the event will be $8.00 each. Presale buttons will go on sale December 19 and will be available at multiple locations. On December 31 at 5:00 PM, buttons may be purchased at the First Night Headquarters located at the Ritchie Law Firm Office at 71 Court Square in downtown Harrisonburg.
“The Board of First Night Harrisonburg is excited about bringing the festival back to Harrisonburg,” says First Night Board President Charlotte McNulty. “We have a great line-up of entertainment and activities, and we want people to come out to enjoy our celebration of the new year.”
This event is brought to the community through the dedication of local volunteers.
